A HD muffler will fit and work. I tried one but the exhaust was directed at the rear brake lever. To make it fit I used about 4" of a HD chrome tip that the ID match on both the OD of the Savage head pipe/seal and OD of the Harley Muffler. It needed to be heated and bent at that point to not cook the brake lever. Attaching is easy, a large hose clamp, under the heat shield will firmly clamp it to a block against the orginal muffler support, or some work one could fabricate a simple bracket. The muffler I got seemed almost as restrictive, so I punched nickel size hole in the baffle. Still wasn;t satisfied but it did work OK and ordered the SuperTrapp. Very happy with it. Why not try a salvage yard for the mid 80's bars? Max
